Graduation Requirements:
  • One semester of Music; One semester of Art
  • Courses to be taken at Stuyvesant High School

At the instrumental auditions, students are expected to play a prepared piece, play scales, and sight-read. AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Although the number of classes of a given subject is based on the number of student requests for that subject, staffing considerations often make it impossible to accommodate all student requests.


Ninth Grade Students will be programmed for either:

A. Music Appreciation or Art Appreciation (one in the Spring, the other in the Fall)

B. Chorus program, Orchestra program, Band program, in place of Music Appreciation. Enrollment in these courses is by audition only.

Students in chorus or in the instrumental music program will be programmed for Art Appreciation in the Fall or Spring term (adding one period to their school day).

Tenth Grade Students:

Music: Students who have been selected for the instrumental or vocal programs will continue.

Art: Studio Art Mixed Media, Painting, Advanced Placement (AP) Art History

Eleventh Grade Students:

Students who have been selected for the instrumental or vocal programs will continue.

Music: Students who have been selected for the instrumental or vocal programs will continue. 

Art: Studio Art Mixed Media, Painting, Advanced Placement (AP) Art History

Twelfth Grade Students:

A. Students who have been selected for the instrumental or vocal programs will continue.

B. Upon completion of eight (8) consecutive terms, students in the Band, Orchestra or Choral sequence will have their 10 period senior Technology requirement waived.

C. For students who have completed art appreciation, or their equivalents the following courses are available as a senior elective:   Studio Art Mixed Media, Painting, Advanced Placement (AP) Art History
