This course is a survey of life processes and the biochemistry of living things. It includes a study of the major organ systems of animals and the life functions of plants. The spring term includes reproduction in plants and animals, genetics, ecology and evolution. Students who have not completed the Regents in Living Environment
are required to take it at the end of the year.
There is a double period laboratory exercise each week that includes microscopes, biochemical analysis, and dissections. Homework consists of essays, multiple choice, and short-answer questions. A lab report is required for each lab, and all lab reports must be approved before the student may take the Regents exam. Also, each teacher gives a special enrichment term project. Grades are cumulative, with at least 2 major exams each marking period.
This course is a prerequisite for all biology electives.
